Valentine Bear

Open a new image.

Set your background colour to #c00606

Set your foreground colour to #feb813.

We'll be switching between these 2 colours throughout the tutorial. To switch the colours, click on the double ended arrow.

Click on your preset shapes tool and choose Rectangle.

Set your background colour to the red and your foreground colour to null (null means no colour). Using the squares on the canvas as a guide, draw a shape, 9x9 squares. Go to the layer palette, right click on the shape layer and duplicate. Use your mover tool to arrange the shapes as in the screenshot.

Add a new layer. Name it yellow square.

Switch the colours in your colour palette so the yellow is in the background colour and your foreground colour is set to null. Use your preset shape tool and this time, draw a shape 8x8 squares. Duplicate the layer and use the mover tool to arrange the shapes as in the screenshot.

On your layer palette, rename the red layers, red square and copy of red square. Click on Copy of yellow square to select it. This will make sure the next layer we add will go to the top of the pile.

Add a new layer. Name it, bear.

Click on your tube tool and find the bear. Set the scale 50

Click once in the centre of your canvas.

This is how your layer palette should look. Click on red square to select it.

Go to Effects > Texture Effects > Weave and use the settings in the screenshot.

Click on copy of red square to select it.

Go to Effects > Texture > Straw Wall and use the settings in the screenshot.

Click on yellow square to select it.

Go to Effects > Texture and choose preset number 15. Use the settings in the screenshot.

Click on copy of yellow square to select it.

Go to Effects > Texture and choose preset number 57. Use the settings in the screenshot.

Switch the colours in your colour palette so the red is in the background colour box. Go to Image > Add Border. If a warning pops up asking if you want to merge the layers, click yes.

Click on your magic wand tool and use the settings in the screenshot. Click on the red border to select it.

Add an inner bevel using the settings in the screenshot. Go to Selections > Select None.

Switch the colours in your colour palette so the yellow is in the background colour box. Add another border, select it using your magic wand and add the same inner bevel as before. Go to Selections > Select None.

Click on your text tool and use the settings in the screenshot. Click ok. Now go to the layer palette, right click on the vector layer and click on Convert To Raster Layer.

Add the same inner bevel as before.

Add a drop shadow using the settings in the screenshot. The colour of the drop shadow is the same yellow we used for the text.

Use your mover tool to position the text as in the screenshot.

Switch the colour in your background colour box to the red. Use your text tool, same settings as before and add the word, 'beary'. Convert the vector layer to a raster layer and add the same inner bevel and drop shadow, changing the shadow colour to the red.

Add the word 'special' and same as before, convert to a raster layer, add an inner bevel and drop shadow.

Switch the colours in your colour palette so the yellow is in the background box. Change the font to your script font. Because you're using a different font, you may need to change the text size.

In the middle of the vector box is a node (a node is a little square), use this node to rotate the text. (I turned off the visibility of the background layer so you could see the node better).

Convert the vector layer to a raster layer and add the same inner bevel and drop shadow.

Save as a .jpeg.

This warning will pop up. Click yes.
